2013 Milwaukee Armed Forces Week



May 11-18, 2013

The public is invited to several exciting events to show support of our troops
in celebration of Armed Forces Week 2013: Forward with Unity.

 

What is Milwaukee Armed Forces Week?
Milwaukee Armed Forces Week is a joint effort of the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee, comprised of members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, as well as Milwaukee area citizens. Its mission is to increase public understanding of the role of the military in a democratic society as well as honor and acknowledge the people of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Monday, May 13:
  • 7:30 a.m. - ESGR Breakfast, featuring Rich Meeusen, President of Badger Meter at the Wisconsin Club
  • Noon - North Shore Rotary Luncheon. Commander Michael Brasseur, USN, the Blue Crew Prospective Commanding Officer for the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) will speak at the event. 
  • 7:30 p.m. - ​Invitation-only Armed Forces Week Dinner at the Wisconsin Club. Rear Admiral Rick Williamson, Commander Navy Region Midwest will be the featured speaker. Governor Scott Walker will also speak. The Armed Forces Committee will present MillerCoors with the fourth annual Citizen Support of our Armed Forces Award. The award will be accepted by Andy Moschea. This event is SOLD OUT. 
Tuesday, May 14: 
  • 10:00 a.m. - Commander Michael Brasseur, USN will unveil the USS Milwaukee ship’s crest at 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 14th at Discovery World. Mayor Tom Barrett & County Executive Chris Abele will preside the event. 
  • ​Noon - Rotary Club Luncheon. Members from the "Flight of Honor" film will present scenes from the film and speak to attendees. The Marquette University Air Force ROTC Color Guard will also be present. Former Miss Wisconsin, Jayme Dawicki will provide music and song. Members of the military or reserve in uniform will receive a free luncheon. The luncheon takes place at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center.
Wednesday, May 15:
  •  Noon - Kiwanis Club Luncheon at the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center. Commander Michael Brasseur, USN, the Blue Crew Prospective Commanding Officer for the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) will speak at the event. Members of the military or reserve in uniform will receive a free luncheon.  
Thursday, May 16: 
  • ​Noon - Gyro Club Sijan Award Luncheon at the Milwaukee Yacht Club
  • 5:30 p.m. - Civic Dinner Dance at the 128th Refueling Wing. This event is open to the public with tickets sold in advance. 
Friday, May 17: 
  • ​9:00 a.m. - Public golf outing at Muskego Lakes Country Club
Saturday, May 18: 
  • 9:00 a.m. Support the Troops Ride registration and breakfast at Hal's House of Harley in New Berlin.
  • 11:00 a.m. Support the Troops Ride
  • Noon - Ceremony, featuring Captain Koshkin, USMC, military display and wreath laying at the Harley-Davidson Museum.  Open to the public.
